Blackwood

The Forest Haven of Blackwood
The drive into Blackwood is overwhelmingly beautiful. The Wombat State Forest, with its tall timbers, lush greenery and flourishing commercial nurseries, is a pristine backdrop to the historic mountain top village.
The approach is dotted with historic cottages, dating as far back as 1855 and the heady gold rush days. Gold was discovered at Golden Point, Simmons Reef and Barry’s Reef with remnants of the rich gold history still visible today.
Blackwood itself is quaint, green, and inviting. Visit the historic Cobb & Co Tea Rooms, General Store and Blackwood Hotel. Fine food fare is available at these and a number of other locations including Lerdie’s Restaurant and the Garden of St Erth.
The Garden of St Erth is must stop destination for visitors to Blackwood. Enjoy its expansive gardens, historic sandstone homestead, orchards, rare perennials, plant nursery, gift shop and café. St Erth hold their Annual Fruit and Flowers Festival in March each year. It’s a place to visit time and again for its seasonal showcase. Mark a visit on your calender for May. The autumn garden at St Erth is magical.

Don the boots and enjoy spectacular walks from Blackwood through the Lerderderg State Park, which features old gold mines, water races, the Mineral Springs Reserve, Grahams Dam (a perfect pool for swimming), Fosters Lookout and of course, the parks most domimant feature, The Gorge.
Walks range from easy 1 hour strolls to 20km overnight hikes.
