Moorabool Wineries
Officially, some of the wineries within Moorabool border the Sunbury Wine Region and the Macedon Ranges Wine Region. But on the whole, the name ‘Moorabool’ when associated with wine means ‘award winning’.
It’s a cool climate area with an Autumn season which ensures cool dry growing conditions that allows intense fruit flavours to develop. A wide variety of grapes are successfully grown in the region with winemakers producing award wines that are fruit-driven which age with style.
Bacchus Hill Winery and St Anne’s Winery have received their fair share of accolades in the world of wine.
Bacchus Hill Winery is noted not only for their outstanding Shiraz and Sangiovese, but for their spectacular views. Set high on the hillside overlooking Bacchus Marsh, Bacchus Hill offers the perfect location for a relaxing afternoon. Sample fine wines and dine on fine food at their cellar door and restaurant.
St Anne's Winery, established at Myrniong in 1972 by the McLean family, also produce a range of premium award winning table wines - Rhine Riesling, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. St Anne’s is also widely renowned for their outstanding fortifieds and dessert wines.
The bluestone buildings and cellar at St Anne’s, built from the remnants of Ballarat's original gaol, provides a rustic backdrop to the cellar door tasting experience.
Along the freeway from Melbourne there are numerous wineries to enjoy: Witchmount Estate,
Camerons Estate, and Galli. See the Sunbury Wine Region or Macedon Ranges Wine Region website for more information or follow the links to local wineries.
